![]() ![]() Interestingly enough, this phenomenon was observed by Christopher Columbus who wrote in his journals that his compass stopped working inside the Triangle. And the Bermuda Triangle is one of two places on the planet where compasses point to true north instead of magnetic north. While it sounds bizarre, there are places like the Gobi Desert that are known to make compasses malfunction. Although not proven to exist (yet), Wikipedia defines wormholes as, “a speculative structure linking disparate points in spacetime… A wormhole can be visualized as a tunnel with two ends at separate points in spacetime.” Is it possible that the Bermuda Triangle is leading dozens of ships and airliners to their wormhole-y doom?Īlternatively, perhaps there’s a hole in Earth’s electromagnetic field. More sci-fi- inclined theorists prefer the wormhole hypothesis. An explosion of such magnitude could easily take down even the mightiest of ships. Once the gasses reach a critical mass, they can cause massive eruptions on the sea’s surface. The theory is that the gas escapes from deposits of oil and gas buried deep within the seafloor. Measuring half-a-mile wide and 150 feet deep, these Norwegian craters are believed to have been formed by bubbles of methane gas. ![]() And after the discovery of a series of large craters off the coast of Norway in 2016 they might be on to something. Some people believe that methane gas is to blame for bringing hundreds to their watery graves. There are dozens of seriously strange theories surrounding the Bermuda Triangle. It seems that our technological advancements and knowledge of the open ocean are no match for this rough patch of sea. While we might like to think that the Triangle’s most devastating incidents will stay in the past, the area is still creating modern tragedies. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker planes crashed in the Atlantic after colliding mid-air. And most recently, in 1963, a pair of U.S. Stories say that the ship’s crew met an untimely fate while the yacht somehow managed to survive three recorded hurricanes. Years later in 1955, an abandoned yacht was found floating just south of Bermuda. Also in 1948, a Douglas DC-3 aircraft vanished with 32 people on board during a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Miami. Both planes were passenger aircraft operated by British South American Airways. ![]() In 19 the Star Tiger and Star Ariel suffered back-to-back disappearances. Neither the planes nor the crew returned. Later, in 1945, five Navy planes departed from their base in Florida on a routine training mission referred to as Flight 19. The Bermuda Triangle gained national attention in the 20th century after the USS Cyclops went missing with over 300 people on board. Whatever the true grand total, thousands of lives have been lost. However, estimates sit around 50 incidents by air, 20 incidents by sea and one incident on land. The exact number of airplanes and ships claimed by the Bermuda Triangle is unknown. ![]() Little green men capturing humans for study interference from ancient technology from the lost city of Atlantis sea monster attacks and vile vortices that suck people and objects into other dimensions have all been blamed for that which we cannot explain. Disappearances in the area have captivated the human imagination since the mid-19th century and people often credit the events to mysterious forces. Over the years several ships, planes and people have up and vanished from the Bermuda Triangle’s dark waters. The area also isn’t recognized as an official region of the Atlantic Ocean by the U.S. Although infamous, the Bermuda Triangle is not marked on any world maps. ![]()
